Carbon offsetting : how does it work ?

As a way to fight against climatic change, Carbon offsetting is a simple mechanism which allows you to neutralise your greenhouse gases by buying carbon credits. Monitored and certified by international organizations, these carbon credits result from greenhouse gas destruction and valorisation projects. In more specific terms, one CO2 tonne effectively destroyed generates one carbon credit. If your family or your firm emits 10 CO2 tonnes each year, you will have to buy 10 carbon credits each year to wipe off your footprint. Carbon offsetting is by nature geographically neutral, which means that your CO2 emissions can be offset anywhere in the world.

Our supply of carbon credits is provided by our partner Bionersis

Starting in 2005, Bionersis has been developing projects for the capture and valorisation of methane in the waste dumps of developing countries. The sanitation of these waste dumps not only fights against global warming, it also helps to destroy a pollution which is seriously harmful to local populations. Bionersis sites in Asia and South America are U.N certified and produce carbon credits, some of which are set aside for industries subjected to quotas and the rest for voluntary carbon offsetting.

Our carbon credits meet the most severe standards

With a concern for quality and transparency and as stated in our Charter, all our carbon credits meet VCS (Voluntary Carbon Standard) standards. VCS is a world standard of reference for greenhouse gas reduction and destruction projects. VCS was developed by the Climate Group, the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and numerous professional, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Our carbon credits are administrated by the VCS French register of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignation.

Love the World holds an account with the VCS register of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignation. This register vouches for the ownership and the use of carbon credits. The carbon credits we buy are deposited on this account. When you offset, we grant you with a number of carbon credits equivalent to your emissions and give you their reference numbers. These carbon credits are eradicated from our account but a record of your offset is kept by the VCS Caisse des Dépôts et Consignation register.
